California Department of Fish and Wildlife Warden Pilot

Role

The warden pilot conducts patrol operations throughout the state of California. These patrols are conducted for the upholding of California’s environmental and conservation laws. The warden pilot also must conduct regular maintenance on aircraft as well as conduct ground operations as a fish and wildlife warden when aircraft operations are not required. Warden pilots are peace officers first and pilots second. A fish and game warden is also required to carry a firearm and conduct continuous training while on the job.

Requirements

-single and multi-engine land airplane commercial certificate + instrument rating

-class II medical

-aircraft and powerplant certificate (maintenance)

-1500 PIC

-100 multi engine hours

-1 year experience as an aircraft mechanic (or 2 years professional flying experience with mechanics certificate also suffices)

-21 years old

-pass written test and oral interview

-pass PELLETB written test (T score of 42% or higher)

-US Citizen or eligible permanent resident alien

-drug test

-background investigation

-psychological screening

-medical and physical ability test
