Mission
Role/Mission:
Marine Corps Aviation serves as the Aviation Combat Element (ACE) of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF), providing critical support to ground operations. Its six core functions include: Offensive Air Support, Anti-Air Warfare, Assault Support, Aerial Reconnaissance, Electronic Warfare, and Control of Aircraft and Missiles. Marine aviation is inherently expeditionary, designed to operate from austere environments, including amphibious ships and forward operating bases


Primary Mission Sets:
Offensive Air Support (OAS): Provides close air support and deep air support to ground forces, employing precision-guided munitions, rockets, and cannons.
Assault Support: Encompasses the tactical transport of troops, supplies, and equipment using rotary and tiltrotor aircraft, enabling rapid mobility and flexibility on the battlefield.
Anti-Air Warfare (AAW): Involves air defense operations to protect friendly forces from enemy aircraft and missiles, ensuring control of the airspace. Aerial Reconnaissance: Conducts surveillance and reconnaissance missions to gather intelligence on enemy positions and movements.
Electronic Warfare: Employs electronic attack, protection, and support measures to disrupt enemy communications and radar systems.
Control of Aircraft and Missiles: Coordinates the employment of air resources and integrates the other five functions into a cohesive effort .
